RISE UP Pre-course Training
As part of their pre-course study, each student will be required to purchase and read the academic text The Practice of Clinical and Counselling Supervision”, 2016 ed Pelling and Armstrong, Australian Academic Press. This text lays the foundation for the three-day workshop.
Copies can be ordered directly from the publisher https://www.australianacademicpress.com.au/books/details/297/The_Practice_of_Counselling_and_Clinical_Supervision_
Students will be required to complete a 42 question questionnaire relating to the contents of the textbook. This is a mandatory requirement as it provides each student with a broad theoretical understanding of the different settings and theories of Supervision. It is recommended that students allocate at least two weeks (or a minimum of 80 hours) to read the text and answer the questionnaire. The successful completion of the questionnaire is required before the student can move onto the 3-Day workshop phase.
RISE UP Training Program Delivery
All RISE UP course leaders hold formal qualifications in Training and Assessment, Supervision and Counselling and/or Psychotherapy. Your RISE UP training program will be delivered over three days by an experienced registered supervisor who is also a certified RISE UP trainer.
The first day focuses primarily on theory and is spent working through the RISE UP workshop manual.
Day 2 begins with viewing and critiquing of a Supervision session. This is followed by a practice session working through scenarios from the workshop manual in triads. The afternoon is then spent with students assessing and supervising 30-minute sessions in triads, as preparation for the final day assessment phase.
This is your formal assessment day where each student rotates through a triad rotating through the three positions of Supervisor, Assessor and Supervisee. Each position is completed over a 60 minutes period.
RISE UP Training Philosophy
There are no role plays in The RISE UP training program. Our philosophy is that you can’t learn the real from the unreal. All students are to bring real and relevant issues for supervision to the workshop. Revisiting an old issue that you still dwell on is also fine. The assessment phase is the perfect opportunity to discuss a real supervision issue in safety outside your usual work environment. Please ensure that the issues are of a nature that you would discuss with your supervisor and not personal counselling issues.
Using the text and completing the questionnaire will give you a good indication of the scope of the issues that you may choose to bring. Additional Information can be found on the:
